RouteWhat's the Plan?
Your friendly, English-speaking driver will pick you up from your hotel and will take you directly to the base of the volcano. There you’ll meet your friendly English-speaking guide who will give you a brief overview of the trek and will answer any questions you have. Mount Batur is part of the UNESCO Global Geopark Network and an active volcano.
You’ll begin your ascent bright and early under a blanket of stars. Your guide will be happy to discuss the landscape, history and culture of the area. Arriving at the summit, your guide will be happy to offer the best vantage point for photos and will assist you in getting the best shot. Or, if you’d like to just sit and enjoy the view in peace, we encourage you to do that as well.
At the top, you’ll be given a meal and beverages to help regain your energy for the trek around the crater and back down the mountain. We will begin our descent back to Toya Bungkah where we will enjoy the soothing and therapeutic waters of the natural hot springs. At 38 degrees celsius (about 99 degrees fahrenheit), it’s a perfect way to relax after an early morning hike through the spectacular countryside of northern Bali.
We’ll then board the bus and make one final stop before we reach your hotel. We’ll visit a coffee plantation where you can sample different coffees and teas native to Bali and Indonesia – one last “pick-me-up” before you end your adventure.Timetable
At the begining of the trek you will be picked up at your hotel by our drivers and they will take you in an air conditioned car to the starting point of the trekking tour. Once you finish the trek, we will drive you back to your hotel.
You will be accompanied by an experienced, english-speaking guide at all times.
During your trek to the summit, you will realize that steam comes off from holes in the earth. This steam is hot enough to, for example, boil eggs. Your Mount Batur trekking guide will prepare a tasty morning breakfast for you, cooked with the volcano steam. Breakfast includes: a banana sandwich, boiled eggs and hot drinks ( coffee, tea, hot chocolate ).

Frequently Asked Questions
Bali is located about 8 degrees south of the equator. Therefore, you can expect a tropical, warm and humid climate all year around. The views from the top of the Volcano are stunning, no matter when you trek to the top. However, if you can avoid the rainy season, then do so. Slippery trails are never advisable. The best season to go to Mount Batur is during the dry season, which lasts from May to September. Another important thing about the region is the heat. The temperature in the island ranges between 20° C at night and 30° C during the day, all year round. Always have water at hand and stay hydrated.
This trek is not such a hard one. The trek up to the top of Mount Batur is 2 hours. However, if you feel uneasy and you are not sure if you are going to make it to the top on time for the sunrise, then the best thing to do is to get in shape.
One sure way to get fit for trekking and hiking in Indonesia is to, you could have guessed it: hike more. Do you like walking, do you sport twice a week on average? With a little extra training, you’ll soon be ready for this beautiful trekking in Bali.
Tipping in Bali is appreciated but it’s not required. Anyway, many service workers in Bali don’t earn much, so even a small contribution really helps. If your guide did a good job, took you to the top, and cooked you a nice and tasty breakfast, what a better way to thank him than with a generous tip. Of course, how much to tip isn’t written on stone, but USD 5-10 is a good reference.
