> Trek to mount Rinjani’s Summit
> Spend a night in Senaru before the trek
> Visit the Lake and Hot Springs

This trek is currently not available. The Almost-Summit Trek is the closest to the Summit you can get at the moment. Stay updated about the situation in this blog post

The trek will start from the Sembalun village at an altitude of 1100 m. We will then drive to Sembalun village. This route will be pampered with a vast landscape, a slim, long path. It will be a bit hot while crossing the meadow to get to the edge of the crater, at an altitude of 2600 m. You will climb five hills, which are very high and challenging. On the second day you will reach the summit, with a height of 3.726m. We will start at 3 a.m in order to see the sunrise from the summit.

In addition to the summit, you will also be visiting and bathing in the lake and hot spring. You will also be camping in the second crater, which has an incredible view. You will descend through tropical rainforest.

This is a very impressive trek. Don’t forget your camera when you conquer the second highest mountain in Indonesia.

*A deluxe package is also availiable for this trek. The deluxe version costs USD 340,-/ EUR 302,- for 1 person and includes hot water, Wi -Fi, and AC at the hotel.

What’s the plan?

Arrival day:

The day you arrive to Lombok you will be picked up by our staff at Lombok Airport or at any of Lombok ports such as Lembar/Bangsal, Teluk Kodek or from any main touristic attraction in Senggigi, Kuta Lombok, 3 (Gilis Trawangan, Meno, Air). We will then drive you to your hotel in Senaru. Once in Senaru, you will meet us and we will enjoy some welcoming drinks. You will meet your trekking guide who will then explain the trek. If you arrive at least 1 hour before the sunset, you can go to see the Sindang Gile and Tiu Kelap Waterfalls. Note: you can arrive at the same day of the trekking, but we recommend you to get to Senaru the day before and spend the night. That way there will be no delays.

You will wake up at 6.00am and have breakfast at 6.30-40. Be ready to go to Sembalun village with our special mountain car. The trip to Sembalun village takes 45 minutes. We will arrive at 8.00 am. The registration in Rinjani Information Center (RIC) is at 1051 m and in Post 1 (Monitoring Post) at 1300 m. This will take 2 hours. We take a rest for 5/10 minutes at Post 1 (Monitoring Post) and then continue to Post 2 (Tengengean), at 1500 m for about 1 hour. We take a short break of 5 or 10 minutes at Post 2 ( Tengengean ) and then continue our journey to Post 3 (Pada Balong ) at 1800 m. This will take approximately 1 hour. We rest for 2 hours at Post 3 while the guide and porters prepare lunch and a hot drink (tea, coffee, hot chocolate or lemon tea). After having lunch and resting, we continue to Sembalun Crater Rim (Pelawangan Sembalun) 2639M. This will take 3 hours and will include a prolonged, steep climb. We will camp at Sembalun Crater Rim. There we will enjoy the awesome views of the sunset, and sunrise the next morning. We will also enjoy the views of Segara Anak lake, Sembalun village, and the summit of mount Rinjani.

We will wake up at 02.30 am and have some light breakfast. We will leave Sembalun Crater Rim at 03.00 am and start the trek to Rinjani Summit (3726 m). This will take approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes. The first stage is a moderate climb or 120 minutes, while the second stage is a fairly easy but longer trek. The last hour is very steep and difficult (there are many loose stones). From the Summit, you can see all of Lombok island, Bali, Sumbawa and Segara Anak Lake. After the sunrise we will go down to the Sembalun Crater Rim and have a hot breakfast. After having breakfast and resting, we will go down to the lake and hot spring. The trail down is very steep and slippery, so you should be extra carefull. We need 3 hours to get to the lake and hot spring. Lunch will be provided by the lake. We can enjoy the hot spring and explore the lake or take a swim. After lunch at the lake we will go up to the Senaru Crater Rim. The walk will take 3 hours. Once at the Crater Rim, we will be enjoy the views of the summit and the incredible sunset over the Mt. Agung in Bali and the smoke of the new volcano by the lake. Here we will camp and have dinner.

After having breakfast and enjoying the sunrise, we will walk down to Senaru village for 4-5 hours. We will have a break and lunch on the way, between Post 1 or Post Extra. We will arrive at Senaru around 12.30 am to 13.00. Our private car will then bring you to your next destination (Gilis Island, Senggigi, Mataram or Lombok International Airport/BIL).

Frequently Asked Questions

Best season

The best months for a trekking on Mount Rinjani are from April to December. In fact, officially you can only book your trekking for these months. This has everything to do with the fact that Mount Rinjani National Park is closed in the rainy season, which lasts from January to March. Although there are providers who nevertheless have access, we recommend avoiding the mountain in the rainy season.

Do you make it to your destinations as planned? Often this depends on the unpredictable weather in the mountains. However, it can also depend on your own physical condition.

Mount Rinjani is principally for everyone, but some physical condition can make trekking lot easier and more enjoyable. One sure way to get fit for trekking and hiking in Indonesia is to, you could have guessed it: hike more. Do you like walking, have you done trekking at an altitude before and do you sport twice a week on average? With a little extra training, you’ll soon be ready for this beautiful trekking in Lombok Island.

Another good idea is to walk a lot of stairs. This will especially help for the first day, when you conquer 1500 meters of elevation. Make sure you are well prepared. This is important for your safety, but also for that of your team. Make sure you start six months in advance with an hour’s hike twice a week.

It is normal to tip porters, guides and chefs. Opinions on how many are divided. We recommend reserving an amount of IDR 200K for porters. A guide will often get a little more and will expect about IDR 300K. Converted this is an amount of approximately USD 20. Be generous. It will be appreciated.

The treks always include entrance to Mount Rinjani National Park. This means that permits are also inclusive. The fee for permits consists of 13% for the National Park, 62% for the Rinjani Ecotourism Program and 25% for the maintenance of the trails.
