What's the Plan?

Day 1
Upon arrival in Puerto Natales, you meet our trekking-guide for a short briefing about the next days. You spend the first night in a guesthouse in Puerto Natales in a double room with private bathroom (-/-/-)

Day 2
In the morning, you take our private transfer to the Torres del Paine National Park and will see some of the native wildlife of this fantastic region like Guanacos and Ñandus. Upon arrival in the park, your first hike leads you to the famous 'Torres' granite needles. At first, you hike up to the Ascencio-valley where you take a break at the Refugio Chileno next to the Ascencio River. After 2+ hours and a tough ascent your efforts will be rewarded: You will stand in front of the impressive needles with a green lagoon lying at your feet.

Appr. walking time: 8 hours
Walking distance: 19 km (11,8 miles)
Elevation gain of approx. 950 m (3,100 ft) ascent and descent.
Overnight: in the “Refugio Chileno” or “Refugio Torre” in shared bedrooms and shared bathrooms. (B/BL/D)

Note: If the lodges (refugios) are fully booked, you will spend the night in 2-person-tents 

Day 3
Today, you hike along Nordenskjöld Lake to the wonderful Refugio Los Cuernos, close to the lake and the “Cuernos”. Passing Monte Almirante Nieto (2,640m), you can probably watch condors circling in the sky.

Appr. walking time: 4-5 hours
Walking distance: 11,5 km (7 miles)
Elevation gain of approx. 250 m (820 ft) ascent and descent. 
Overnight: in the “Refugio Los Cuernos” or “Refugio Frances” in shared bedrooms and shared bathrooms. (B/BL/D)

Day 4
In the morning you head towards the French valley and its viewpoint “Mirador” where you gain deep insight into the mountains. With a bit of luck, you may witness ice cracking off the Paine Grande (3,050 m / 10,000 ft) sounding like a rumble of roaring thunder. Subsequently, you walk along the splendid Lago Skottsberg to the emerald green Lago Pehoe.

Appr. walking time: 6-7 hours
Walking distance: 17 km (10,5 miles)
Elevation gain of approx. 600 m (1,970 ft) ascent and descent.
Overnight: in the “Lodge Paine Grande” in shared bedrooms and shared bathrooms. (B/BL/D)

Day 5
Today you walk along the Black Lagoon (Laguna Negra) and the Path of Winds (Camino del Viento) to your viewpoint on the Grey Glacier. Depending on the weather and season you will come across various birds and plants. You hike back to the Lodge Paine Grande, cross the beautiful Pehoe-Lake with a catamaran (approx. 30 min) and take our private bus back to Puerto Natales.

Walking distance:  12 km (7,5 miles)
Elevation gain of approx. 350 m (1,150 ft) ascent and descent.

Day 6
Transfer with a regular bus through the wind-shaped Pampa to El Calafate in Argentina (without a guide). In the afternoon you have time for shopping or for trying one of the famous Argentine steaks.

Day 7
Today you are heading to El Chaltén with a regular bus (without a guide), taking a break at the Estancia La Leona. El Chaltén is a lovely village in the mountains that will be your starting point for the next days. In the afternoon you have some time to discover this idyllic place on our own or to do a short hike to the Chorillo del Salto.

Day 8
In the morning you will meet your trekking-guide for the next hikes. A 6-hours guided walk leads you to Laguna Torre where you have a great view of the Cerro Torre (3,102m / 10,180 ft) with its glaciers. Later on, you take a break at the Agostini Camp that is the base camp for all Cerro Torre mountaineers.

Walking distance: 18 km (11 miles)
Elevation gain of approx. 250 m (820 ft) ascent and descent.

Day 9
Today you can choose an optional half-day or full-day-excursion to the lake "Lago del Desierto" or go on a full-day-hike to "Loma del Pliegue Tumbado". Or you have some time to discover this pristine place on your own and go on a short hike to the viewpoints “Condores & Aguilas”.

Day 10
Today hike to Laguna de Los Tres and the viewpoint of Laguna Sucia. You also pass the Base Camp Rio Blanco that serves all Fitz Roy Mountaineers. Your efforts will be rewarded with an unforgettable view on the Monte Fitz Roy (3,406 m / 11,174 ft) and the surrounding mountains.  

Appr. walking time: 8-9 hours
Walking distance: 24 km (14,9 miles)
Elevation gain of approx. 750 m (2,460 ft) ascent and descent.
Overnight: Hotel in El Chaltén in a double room with private bathroom. (B/BL/-)

Day 11
In the morning you get back to El Calafate with the regular bus (without a guide, driving time appr. 3 hours).  In the afternoon you visit the incomparable Perito Moreno Glacier in the Los Glaciers National park that is part of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field (with a guide). If you are lucky you will witness the Glacier calving. Furthermore, you take al boat ride over the Argentino Lake along the imposing ice walls of the glacier (appr. 1 hour).

Day 12
You travel from Argentina back to Puerto Natales, Chile on a regular bus (without a guide).

The boat rides over the Argentino Lake along the imposing ice walls of the glacier Perito Moreno, and Pehoe Lake in Torres del Paine are included in the trek.

The rest of your luggage, which you do not need on the Torres del Paine trekking tour, stays locked at your hotel in Puerto Natales.

You have to make your way to Puerto Natales. The total amount is exclusive of flights to and from Chile.

Single supplement
The single supplement for single accommodation has an extra charge of  $275 USD / 250 EUR p.p. There are no single or double rooms in the Refugios/Lodges of Torres del Paine National Park, therefore there is no single supplement for the 3 nights in Torres del Paine.

× Tour guide on the days of transfer
During the days of transfers, no guide will join you on the buses.

× Accommodation before and after the trek
Before and after the trek you have to take care of your own accommodation.

× Personal Expenses
Personal expenses during the trek, as well as meals and beverages not indicated in the itinerary,  are not included in the price of the trek.

× Optional trips
Otional excursions such as the half-day trek to Lago del Desierto on day 9 are not included in the price of the trek.

× Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is mandatory and must be purchased prior to the start of the trip. Your international travel insurance is your own responsibility. It is important that your travel insurance also covers adventures at a high altitude. Discuss your itinerary with the insurance company before your trek. 

× Tipping
Tipps for the guide and porter are not included in the price of the trek. You decide how much to tip, but if you got a good service from your guide, be generous.

What’s the best season for trekking in Torres del Paine?
You want nice weather when trekking in Torres del Paine National Park. At the park is situated in the Southern Hemisphere, one has to be mindful of the seasons there. When it is winter in the Northern Hemisphere, it is actually summer in the deep South. Hence, the best trekking season for Torres del Paine National Park is during the summer months: From November to early March. However, Spring (September-November) are and Autumn (March-May) are also favorable trekking and hiking seasons, as the crowds are fewer and the natural scenery is colorful. Think fresh colors in Spring and stunning brown colors in the Fall months. Winter lasts from June to August and it is then that Torres del Paine National Park and the rest of Patagonia is quiet. At this time of the year, most attractions are closed for maintenance. Regardless of your choice in trekking season, make sure you bring enough layers for during your hike. The same months, November to early March, apply for the Argentinean side of Patagonia.

Training
Do you make it to your destinations as planned? Often this depends on the unpredictable weather in the mountains. However, it can also depend on your own physical condition.

Good physical fitness is a necessary requirement for this tour. Furthermore, you should be able to walk with your daypack (40l to 50l) up to 6-8 hours a day with some strenuous ascents and descents. Your personal items must be carried by you (rain gear, fleece or light down jacket, trekking poles, gloves, cap, camera, lunch and water for the day; in Torres del Paine in addition vanity bag, extra-set of clothes).

Do you like walking, have you done trekking at an altitude more often and do you sport twice a week on average? With a little extra training, you’ll soon be ready for this beautiful trekking in Patagonia.

The National Parks

Los Glaciares National Park

Los Glaciares National Park is the biggest National Park in Argentina and was created in 1937 in order to preserve an extensive area of continental ice and glaciers, the southern Andean-Patagonian forest, and samples of the Patagonian steppe. It was also declared a World Heritage Site by the UNSECO in 1981.

Within this park, visitors can get to know the local flora and fauna, part of which are endangered species. Moreover, visitors can get to see glaciers such as the Perito Moreno or climb Mount Fitz Roy.

This National Park covers an area of 726,927 ha and is situated in Santa Cruz province. The park is located in the Argentinean border with Chile and borders the Torres del Paine National Park to the south, in Chilean territory.

If you like trekking, this park is ideal for you. The park has plenty of trekking trails that will guide you to breathtaking glacial lakes and will walk you through majestic forests. At Los Glaciares National Park you will get to see Patagonia in its purest form.

Torres del Paine National Park

Torres del Paine is one of Chile's most important natural reserves and it is situated just below Los Glaciares National Park, on the Chilean side of the Andes. Fun fact about this park:
 Paine means "blue" in the native Tehuelche language and is pronounced PIE-nay.

This park is famous for its nature and the breathtaking rock formations that gave the park its name: the Towers. The Torres del Paine are the distinctive three granite peaks of the Paine mountain range. Moreover, in the park, you can find plenty of rivers, lakes, valleys, and glaciers that are part of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field.

On Bookatrekking.com you can find and compare the adventures of your dreams. Is this trekking adventure your match? In that case, you can proceed to book. For the Patagonia products, you can book your trek by paying 15% of the total amount. However, 45 days before your trek, you must pay the remaining 85%. If you book within 45 days of your trip, then you must pay the full amount. 

This is so because the trekking companies must pay for the accommodation in refugios beforehand in order to secure your spots. Once the accommodation has been booked, it cannot be refunded.

Bookatrekking.com uses only the safest payment methods. Once your booking has been received, your place is reserved, your place is safe and you can look forward to your chosen trekking.

Cancellation Policy
You wish you didn’t have to, but there is no other way: You find yourself having to cancel your plans. In this case, you lose your deposit, but since you haven’t paid the large sum yet, you at least save that. If you cancel your trip within 45 days before the trek, then the amount is non-refundable.
